Free credits reset every day, which suits a side project that has not earned yet. Geoapify is a location platform with APIs for maps, geocoding, routing, places, isolines and route planning. Its Free plan gives 3,000 credits a day, about 90,000 a month, needs no credit card and can be used in commercial projects if you show the Geoapify attribution. Paid monthly plans run from $59 for 5 requests a second to $609 for 25, with Enterprise from $860 and an unmetered Custom plan. Credits make costs uneven: a geocoding call costs 1 credit, a map tile 0.25, and the calculator's default route matrix call costs 200. G2 shows 4.9 from 20 reviews, and the common praise is fast, simple setup.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +The Free plan gives 3,000 credits a day without a credit card, and the pricing FAQ says you can stay on it as long as it meets your needs.
  • +Commercial use is allowed on the Free plan, including production, as long as you stay within the quota and rate limits and show the attribution.
  • +G2 shows 4.9 out of 5 from 20 reviews, and G2's summary says users praise ease of use and quick setup for geocoding addresses without technical complications.
  • +An r/learnjavascript poster who needed a location API for a large mapping app said that after trying several, Geoapify was by far the best.
  • +Batch requests cost half as much, and the async Batcher can process route optimization tasks with up to 1,000 locations.
  • +Quotas are soft. The FAQ says Geoapify contacts you and asks for an upgrade before blocking an account that goes over.
  • +The API set is wide: maps, static maps, geocoding, routing, route matrix, route planner, isolines, places, place details, postcodes, boundaries and IP geolocation.
  • +Paid plans include a 99.5 percent availability SLA, with a 10 percent discount between 99 and 99.5 percent and 50 percent below 99.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’A G2 reviewer liked the free usage but noted it is limited to a specific volume of data.
  • βˆ’Credits are uneven across APIs. The calculator's default route matrix call costs 200 credits and a route planner call 600, so 3,000 daily credits can disappear in a few heavy calls.
  • βˆ’The first paid step is $59 a month for 5 requests a second, and the next tier up is $109 for 12.
  • βˆ’Attribution is required on the Free plan, shown as a follow link near the map or information.
  • βˆ’The pricing text I captured did not show the credit quota for each paid plan, so use the credits calculator to size a plan.
  • βˆ’Basic plan limits are tight on heavy APIs: isochrones up to 15 minutes and isodistances up to 10 km, with best effort support.
  • βˆ’Prices exclude VAT, sales tax and other fees, so the final price can be higher depending on your country.

The catch

The Free plan includes 3,000 credits a day, about 90,000 a month, and the sign-up box says no credit card is required. Credits are the billing unit and each API has its own cost. Examples from the pricing details page: one geocoding or autocomplete request costs 1 credit, one map tile request costs 0.25 credit, routing costs 1 credit per pair of waypoints, an isoline costs 1 credit per 5 minutes, and a places request costs 1 credit for up to 20 places. In the calculator, a route matrix call defaults to 200 credits and a route planner call to 600, so heavy APIs drain the free quota quickly. Commercial use is allowed on the Free plan, including production, if you stay inside the quota, rate limits and feature limits and show the required attribution, a follow link such as Powered by Geoapify near the map or data. Geoapify map styles include attribution when you load style.json. Quotas and rate limits are soft. The FAQ says Geoapify generally does not throttle when you go over and contacts you before restricting an account, but it reserves the right to block accounts that keep exceeding limits. Paid plans are billed monthly at $59, $109, $179, $299, $609 and from $860 for requests per second of 5, 12, 15, 20, 25 and 30. A Custom plan offers unmetered requests, and one dedicated server is quoted at 700 euros a month plus a 200 euro setup fee. I did not capture the daily credits for each paid plan. Reviews: G2 shows 4.9 from 20 reviews, Capterra lists the product, and a Reddit poster recommended it. I read excerpts only.

Common questions

Can I use the Free plan commercially?

Yes, including in production, within the quota and rate limits and with the required attribution.

Do I need a credit card?

No. The pricing page says no credit card is required to start.

What is a credit?

A virtual unit that prices every API. One simple request such as geocoding costs 1 credit, and heavier APIs cost more.

What happens if I go over my quota?

The limits are soft. Geoapify contacts you and asks for an upgrade, and reserves the right to block accounts that ignore its emails.

How can I lower costs?

Batch requests count at half price, and the Custom plan bills by resource usage instead of calls.
