HashnodeFree tier and limits

Developer blogging platform. Free blog with unlimited articles, and Pro is $5 a month per seat.

Write for a developer audience and pay only if you want the Pro extras. Hashnode is a blogging platform for developers. A free account gives you a blog with syntax highlighting in 25 languages, LaTeX, tables and embeds, or raw Markdown if you skip the editor. The home page also lists a custom domain, a GraphQL API, headless use and GitHub mirroring, but the Pro page lists those as Pro features, so the two pages disagree about what is free. Pro is $5 a month or $50 a year per seat and adds a custom domain, the GraphQL API, headless mode, AI editor tools, webhooks, GitHub backup, bulk Markdown import, branding removal and scheduled publishing. Growth is $34 a month and adds an AEO toolkit that tracks whether ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity cite your articles. G2 and Trustpilot ratings did not turn up, and the Capterra listing showed no rating in the excerpt I read.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +A free blog with no article cap. The Pro page describes free publications as their own sites with unlimited articles.
  • +The editor is built for technical writing: syntax highlighting in 25 languages, LaTeX, tables and embeds, with raw Markdown as an alternative.
  • +Pro is cheap for one person. It costs $5 a month or $50 a year per seat and raises the account limit from 1 publication to 10.
  • +The API side is developer friendly. Pro lists a GraphQL API, headless mode and webhooks, and the foreword blog lists a Hashnode CLI and an MCP server announced on October 6 and September 29, 2026.
  • +Moving in and out is documented. The home page says you can import Markdown with tags, dates and canonical URLs intact, and Pro lists bulk Markdown import and GitHub backup of every post and draft.
  • +An r/opensource commenter said Hashnode let them connect a domain for free and that they get a steady flow of views from Google search. That thread is older, so check the current plan split.
  • +Growth adds an AEO score in the editor and daily citation tracking across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity for up to 10 questions.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’The free and Pro lines are unclear. The home page lists a custom domain, GraphQL API, headless use and GitHub mirroring, while the Pro page lists custom domain, GraphQL API access, headless mode and GitHub backup as Pro features. Check the live plan before you move.
  • βˆ’Free publications may lose off-topic posts. The Pro page lists protection from automoderation as a Pro feature and says Pro posts are shadow-banned instead of deleted, so free publications face automoderation removal.
  • βˆ’Branding stays on free publications. Removing the Powered by Hashnode footer, the floating Write button and the Hashnode logo is a Pro feature.
  • βˆ’Pro applies per publication and per seat. Upgrading one publication does not upgrade the other nine, which have to be upgraded separately.
  • βˆ’Growth costs $34 a month ($340 a year), about seven times Pro, and its citation tracking covers up to 10 questions. AI traffic tracking does not populate for headless publications.
  • βˆ’An r/Blogging commenter said that while Hashnode and Medium offer some built-in audience, they consider their own WordPress blog the far superior option. The excerpt is cut off, so I could not read their reasons.
  • βˆ’I found no G2 or Trustpilot ratings, and the Capterra listing showed no rating in the excerpt I read. Opinions here come from Reddit threads, which are search excerpts.

The catch

The home page and the Pro page disagree on what is free. The home page lists a custom domain, a GraphQL API, headless use and GitHub mirroring as features of the platform, and the Pro page lists custom domain, GraphQL API access, headless mode and GitHub backup as Pro features. Treat the Pro page as the paid list and confirm in your account before relying on a feature. Pro is $5 a month or $50 a year per seat and applies per publication. Upgrading one publication raises the account limit from 1 to 10, with nine free publications beside it. Growth is $34 a month or $340 a year with $5 a month per extra seat. Hashnode's /pricing address redirects to the home page, so the Pro page is the pricing source here. Card requirement and commercial use of the free plan are not stated in the pages I read.
