Trace, evaluate and version the prompts in your LLM app. Langfuse is an open source platform for tracing, evaluating and managing prompts for LLM applications. The Hobby cloud plan is free with no credit card and includes all platform features with limits: 50k units a month, 30 days of data access, 2 users and community support through GitHub. Core is $29 a month for 100k units and 90 days of data, with extra usage at $8 per 100k units. Pro is $199 a month, with 3 years of data access. You can also self-host Langfuse: an r/LangChain reply says the open source version includes all product features without scalability limits. G2 shows 4.5. Reddit opinions split, from a commenter who praises its deep tracing to one who says it adds little value.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +The Hobby plan is free with no credit card and says it includes all platform features, with limits on usage.
  • +You can self-host. An r/LangChain reply says Langfuse open source includes all product features without scalability limitations and runs the same product as the cloud.
  • +An r/dataengineering commenter said it allows deep tracing while staying free and open source, and can be self-hosted or used on Langfuse's cloud.
  • +G2 shows 4.5 out of 5 and notes it can be self-hosted in your own VPC or on-premises.
  • +Core costs $29 a month for 100k units and 90 days of data, and Core and above have unlimited users.
  • +The platform covers tracing, session tracking, prompt management, evals, datasets and dashboards in one place, per the pricing table.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’Hobby is capped at 50k units, 30 days of data, 2 users and 2 alerts, with API rate limits of 30 requests a minute on the general API.
  • βˆ’Support on the free plan is community only, through GitHub.
  • βˆ’Core's data access is 90 days. Three years of history needs Pro at $199 a month.
  • βˆ’A commenter in r/LocalLLaMA called it better than nothing for observability but said it does not provide that much value, and that most tools do not support it.
  • βˆ’Prices step up quickly for teams: Pro is $199 a month, the Teams add-on is $300 a month and Enterprise is $2,499 a month.
  • βˆ’I did not read how Langfuse defines a billable unit, so check the docs before estimating monthly volume.

The catch

The free cloud plan is limited to 50k units a month, 30 days of data and 2 users, and community support. A project that sends many spans per request can exhaust 50k units quickly, and I did not read how a unit is defined. Self-hosting gets around the cloud limits, but you run the infrastructure. An r/LangChain reply claims the open source version has every product feature without scale limits, and that comes from a forum reply, so confirm it in the docs and the licence for your use. Langfuse says the Hobby plan needs no credit card. I did not find a commercial use clause for the free cloud plan.
