Auth & Identity
Okta's developer auth platform. The Free plan covers 25,000 monthly active users and needs no card.
Sign-up needs no card, though enabling the included custom domain does. Auth0, listed on its own site as Auth0 by Okta, handles login, social connections, passwordless sign-in and API authorization for web and mobile apps. The Free plan costs $0, covers up to 25,000 monthly active users and needs no credit card to sign up, although adding a custom domain requires credit card verification. It includes one custom domain, five organizations, unlimited social connections, passwordless authentication, basic attack protection and community support, plus one enterprise connection, self-service SSO and SCIM. Paid plans start at $35 a month for Essentials and $240 for Professional. Reviews split by audience: G2 shows 4.3 from 286 reviews and Capterra 4.7 from 147, while Trustpilot shows 2.7 from 7. The recurring complaint, in G2's own comparison summary and in Reddit threads, is that the price climbs fast as user counts grow.

Signup needs no card, but enabling the free custom domain requires credit card verification. Free also leaves out Pro MFA factors and gives community support only. The real risk is the price curve. Paid plans pick a user quota from 1,000 up to 100,000 or more, and reviewers on G2 and Reddit keep returning to cost as user counts grow. Older Reddit threads quote per-MAU rates ($0.07 for B2C Essentials) that the current pricing page no longer shows, so run the pricing calculator with your own user count before you commit. The Essentials and Professional footnote also says you must upgrade to B2B to keep enterprise connections, self-service SSO and SCIM. I could not confirm commercial-use terms for the Free plan from the pages I read. The page's own metadata calls it a free forever dev plan.
Pro MFA factors, role-based access control per organization, 10 organizations, audit log streaming to Datadog, Splunk, AWS or Azure, separate production and development environments, standard support. The page shows 500 users in its default view, and paid plans let you choose a user quota.
Everything in Essentials plus use of your existing user database for logins, Enterprise MFA, custom token exchange, enhanced attack protection and an M2M tokens add-on.
Custom user and SSO tiers, a 99.99% SLA, enterprise rate limits, enterprise administration and support, with advanced security and private deployment as add-ons.
The pricing page links a startups program at auth0.com/startups. I did not read its terms.

Yes. Signup is card-free, but the pricing page says credit card verification is required for custom domains.
G2 reviewers mention cost and expense often, and older Reddit threads cite a rise in the B2C Essentials per-MAU rate.
