πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +The Free plan includes 10,500 MAUs with no credit card and a long feature list, including MFA, organizations and a custom domain.
  • +Billing is built in, with fixed charges, metered usage and a customer self-serve portal on every plan, so one vendor can cover login and subscriptions.
  • +Users on paid subscriptions billed through Kinde do not count toward the MAU total.
  • +G2 shows 4.7 from 42 reviews, and a summary of those reviews highlights ease of use and quick setup.
  • +One G2 reviewer said the pricing is great, especially because you do not need a credit card to get started. Another said it is fast, easy to administer and reasonably priced next to the competition.
  • +A G2 reviewer who left Auth0 said Auth0's price increases of 3x or more and a 20,000 MAU ceiling before an enterprise plan were what pushed them to Kinde.
  • +Pricing is clear across four plans: Free, Pro $25, Plus $75 and Scale $250, with the per-extra-MAU rate listed for each.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’Free is tighter than the MAU number suggests: 2 custom roles, 10 permissions, 1 webhook, 5 custom properties and 2 environments.
  • βˆ’Only 5 monthly active organizations are free. Pro includes 50 and charges $0.50 per extra organization.
  • βˆ’Removing Kinde branding, API keys and the SOC 2 attestation report start on Pro at $25 a month.
  • βˆ’Free enterprise SSO is a Plus feature at $75 a month, and SCIM is listed as coming soon on Scale.
  • βˆ’If you use Kinde to take payments, a platform fee of 0.7% per transaction applies on Free and Pro, 0.6% on Plus and 0.5% on Scale.
  • βˆ’An older r/nextjs commenter questioned paying for a hosted tool, saying Firebase, Supabase or Appwrite are free (and that Appwrite gives 75k MAU free). That is one commenter's view, but it shows the competition.

The catch

The MAU number is generous, but the Free plan is limited in other places: 2 custom roles with 10 permissions, 10 feature flags, 1 webhook, 5 custom properties, 2 environments and 5 monthly active organizations. Kinde branding stays on until Pro. Users on paid subscriptions you bill through Kinde are not counted as MAUs. If you collect customer payments through Kinde, a platform fee of 0.7% per transaction applies on Free and Pro, 0.6% on Plus and 0.5% on Scale. That fee is separate from your Kinde subscription. The pricing page says monthly prices are indicative and vary with usage. Enterprise SSO is free only on Plus, and SCIM is marked coming soon. I could not confirm commercial-use terms for Free from the pages I read.
