Design your notification workflows once and send them across channels. Knock is a hosted notification service. You design workflows once and send them across channels such as email through providers like Mailjet and Postmark, Slack and in-app feeds. The Developer plan costs $0 and covers 10K messages, 500 guide active users and 500 AI agent credits a month, with unlimited workflows, broadcasts, channels and team members and 30-day log retention. Starter is $250 a month and includes 50K messages. Over the free limit there is no hard cap, and the FAQ says Knock contacts you. G2 shows 4.6 from 149 reviews. Reviewers praise ease of use, per-notification observability and fast support. The recurring complaints are missing features such as replay, hard-to-edit email templates, and configuration that lives in the dashboard instead of the codebase.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +G2 reviewers rate it 4.6 from 149 reviews, with 82% giving 5 stars and 16% giving 4 stars. G2's summary counts 39 mentions of ease of use, 34 of the notifications system, 28 each of support and easy setup, and 23 of easy integration.
  • +Observability gets specific praise. A G2 reviewer said they can drill into each notification for each user or channel, which lets their support team solve missing-notification reports without pulling in engineers.
  • +A G2 reviewer from a small business called the dashboard user-friendly and said building templates and workflows is easy.
  • +A G2 reviewer's headline called Knock developer-friendly and product-manager-friendly with easy integration and outstanding support. Support is the third most common praise in G2's summary.
  • +The free plan covers real use. It includes 10K messages a month, unlimited workflows and channels, unlimited team members and batching and delay. An r/node commenter called Knock great and pointed to the 10k free notifications a month.
  • +Billing rules are written down. A message is one message to one user on one channel, failed or bounced messages are not billed, and the cards of paid plans are charged at the end of the month.
  • +There is no hard stop at the free limit. The FAQ says that if you go over, Knock contacts you instead of cutting you off.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’Missing features top the cons. G2's summary counts 19 mentions, including replay and email templates. One reviewer wanted product marketing tools, and another said lack of dynamic audiences is a limitation that is on the roadmap.
  • βˆ’Configuration lives in the dashboard. A G2 reviewer said the whole Knock setup cannot live in their codebase, so moving to another Knock instance means redoing email templates and settings in the UI. Another reviewer wanted a CLI or codebase interface.
  • βˆ’Email editing is awkward for some. A G2 reviewer said creating email with HTML has not always been easy, and G2's summary has 8 mentions of insufficient features around email templates and documentation clarity.
  • βˆ’Some concepts are unclear. G2's summary has 8 mentions of a confusing data model and environment system. One reviewer found the difference between a workflow and a layout fuzzy, and another said environments sometimes get in the way.
  • βˆ’The jump from free to paid is large. Starter is $250 a month, one G2 reviewer said pricing can feel high for smaller teams, and an r/node commenter in a 2024 thread said Knock is good but seems costly.
  • βˆ’Documentation could be better according to a G2 reviewer, who said they got past the gaps with an AI assistant or by asking Knock's support.
  • βˆ’Debugging some integrations is hard. A G2 reviewer called the Mailjet integration a bit of a black box. Another said customizing Knock's React components and the notification store takes a lot more work.
  • βˆ’Many reviews on G2 carry the label for invitations sent on behalf of the seller, and at least one is marked incentivized. Ratings skew positive for that reason.

The catch

Developer is a permanent plan at $0. It covers 10K messages, 500 guide active users and 500 AI agent credits a month, with unlimited workflows, broadcasts, channels and team members, batching and delay, multi-tenancy and Google SSO. Logs are kept for 30 days and the pricing table lists a 99.9% uptime SLA for Developer and Starter. A message is one message to one user on one channel. Failed or bounced messages are not billed. Knock does not stop you at the limit: the FAQ says that when you go over, Knock contacts you. The email, SMS or push providers behind your channels, such as Postmark or Twilio, bill you separately from Knock. The next step is Starter at $250 a month, which is a big jump for a small team. Starter includes 50K messages (then $0.005 each), 2.5K guide active users (then $0.05 each) and 2,000 AI credits, and it lets you remove Knock branding. Volume discounts and monthly notified-user pricing are on Enterprise only. I did not find a statement about a credit card at sign-up or about commercial use on Developer, so both are left as unknown.
