Abstract APIFree tier and limits

Email, phone and IP APIs, each with a no-card free tier of 100, 100 and 1,000 requests a month.

Each API is billed on its own, so you pay only for the one you use. Abstract API sells separate utility APIs, including email validation, phone validation and IP geolocation, and each one is priced and billed on its own. The pricing page gives every API a permanent free tier with no credit card: 100 requests a month for email and phone, and 1,000 for IP geolocation. Free plans return the same full API response as paid plans, and limits are set per second (3 on email and phone, 1 on IP geolocation) with the monthly quota counted separately. Paid plans start at $17 a month billed annually, or $19 monthly, and the three tiers differ in how much data each response carries. G2 lists 16 reviews, mostly short, with praise for email validation and a complaint about addresses returned as unknown. I found no Trustpilot or substantive Reddit threads about it.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +Every API has a permanent free tier with no credit card, and the pricing page says the free plan returns the same full response as paid plans, so you can test the exact payload you will ship.
  • +The IP geolocation free tier is the biggest of the three at 1,000 requests a month.
  • +Prices are published per API. Email validation Starter is $17 a month billed annually for 5,000 requests, which the page puts at $3.40 per 1,000.
  • +A G2 reviewer said it helps them validate emails first and avoid a bad sending reputation, and another said the email verification was accurate after they tested it several times.
  • +A G2 reviewer used the IP API to add IP location awareness so they could watch access patterns and add protections, which shows a real developer use case beyond email.
  • +A Python SDK for Abstract API's services exists in a Reddit post on r/Python, covering email validation, phone validation, IP geolocation and holiday lookups.
  • +Annual billing is 10% cheaper than monthly for the same plan.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’100 requests a month on email and phone is very small. It is enough to test a payload, not to run a signup form for a real product.
  • βˆ’A G2 reviewer said some emails came back as unknown that other verification platforms identified correctly, and another said it is still not the best at email validation.
  • βˆ’G2 shows only 16 reviews and many are very short. I found no Trustpilot listing and no real Reddit discussion of experience with it, so there is little independent evidence about uptime or support.
  • βˆ’The tiers trade data for volume. On the phone API, Starter gives 5,000 requests a month, Standard 3,000 and Professional 2,000 at the same price, because each step adds more fields.
  • βˆ’Each API is billed separately, so using email, phone and IP together means managing three plans.
  • βˆ’The comparison tables on the pricing page are published by Abstract API, so treat claims like the lowest cost for 5,000 verifications as vendor marketing.
  • βˆ’Enterprise lists a commercial license, and the pricing page does not say whether lower plans carry commercial terms, so check the terms before building a paid product on the free tier.

The catch

The free tiers are real and need no card, but they are small. Email and phone validation each give 100 requests a month, and IP geolocation gives 1,000. Rate limits are per second (3 for email and phone, 1 for IP), and the monthly quota is separate. Each API is billed on its own. A paid email or phone plan starts at $17 a month billed annually ($19 monthly), and the tier you pick decides which fields come back. On the phone API all three paid tiers cost the same and trade volume for depth, so Professional includes fewer monthly requests than Starter. The pricing page lists a commercial license under Enterprise and does not state commercial terms for the free tier, so I left commercial use as unknown. G2 lists 16 reviews with one complaint about unknown email results; I found no Trustpilot listing.
