BaaS & Low-code
Open-source backend with auth, databases, storage, functions and hosting. Free cloud plan, self-hostable.
Everything a backend needs in one project, on their cloud or your own server. Appwrite is a backend platform that bundles authentication, databases, storage, functions, messaging, realtime, static site hosting and domains, and it can run on Appwrite Cloud or on your own server. The pricing page says every plan includes the full toolkit, and that a Free project freezes at its limit while the console stays in read-only mode. Appwrite's own plan post lists Free at 5 GB of bandwidth and 75,000 monthly active users, Start from $10 with 80 GB and 100,000 users, and Pro from $25 with 2 TB and 200,000 users. In r/FlutterDev, one developer who tried Appwrite and Supabase for an offline-first app called Appwrite easy to set up but limited in query power. A r/appwrite commenter called the self-hosted option a blessing. Pricing has changed more than once, so recheck the numbers.

The pricing page's plan comparison table did not render when I fetched it, and the structured extract mixed in dedicated database tiers, so I discarded it. The Free, Start and Pro limits above come from Appwrite's own plan post and docs excerpts. That post's date was not visible, so confirm the numbers on the live page before you rely on them. Free projects freeze when they hit a resource limit. The pricing FAQ says the console stays running in read-only mode, and your options are to upgrade to Pro, remove resources over the limit, or wait for the next billing cycle. Pro projects keep running and bill overage, and you can set a budget cap on the organization. I could not confirm how many projects Free allows, or whether Free needs a card. The FAQ says credits only matter to Pro organizations because Free organizations are 100 percent free. Commercial use is marked unknown for that reason. Databases have their own pricing. Serverless databases have a $0 fixed fee. Dedicated databases start at $10 a month for 1 core and 1 GB, and go up to $4,099 a month for 32 cores and 256 GB.
From Appwrite's plan post: 80 GB of API bandwidth, 1.5 million function executions, 10 databases, 10 buckets and 10 functions per project, 100,000 monthly active users, daily backups kept for 7 days, and email support.
2 TB of bandwidth and 200,000 monthly active users per the plan post, with pay-as-you-go overage and an optional budget cap. Appwrite's changelog says Pro moved from $15 to $25 in August 2025.
Starter is 1 core and 1 GB at $10. Standard is 2 cores and 2 GB at $20. Business is 4 cores and 16 GB at $160. Scale is 16 cores and 64 GB at $999. Point-in-time recovery adds 20 percent.
