Reactive TypeScript backend with a live database. Free plan, then pay as you go.
Your data updates in the browser as it changes, with server functions in TypeScript. Convex is a backend where the database, server functions written in TypeScript and live updates to clients come in one product. The pricing page lists a Free plan at $0 a month, with Starter as pay as you go past the free limits. Included each month are 1 million function calls, 0.5 GB of database storage, 1 GB of file storage and 1 GB of egress, plus auth, crons, text search, vector search and preview deployments. Professional is $25 per developer a month with 25 million function calls and 50 GB of database storage. Reddit developers describe it as strong for real-time sync, and one Hacker News commenter said shipping functions on the backend fixed what bothered them about Firebase. I found no usable G2 or Capterra reviews for this Convex.

The pricing page shows a Free plan at $0 a month and says Starter is pay as you go beyond the free tier limits. Usage past the included amounts is billed at the listed rates, so check that a billing method is attached to the account before you run production traffic. Included each month on Free and Starter: 1 million function calls ($2.20 per additional million), 20 GB-hours of action compute ($0.33 per additional GB-hour), 0.5 GB of database storage ($0.22 per additional GB), 1 GB of file storage ($0.033 per additional GB), 0.5 GB of search storage, 1 GB of database I/O and 1 GB of egress ($0.132 per additional GB). Query and mutation compute is free. Professional raises the included amounts, and the page says included amounts are shared across regions. Daily backups, log streaming, exception reporting, custom domains and email support are on Professional and above. SAML and SSO, service SLAs and dedicated deployments are on Business and Enterprise, which start at a $2,500 monthly minimum. Review-site evidence: my search for Convex on Capterra returned a different product with the same name (a sales intelligence tool), so I did not use it. The opinions here come from Reddit and Hacker News.

A r/nextjs commenter said Convex is great for real-time sync and Supabase is the more traditional Postgres choice with row-level security. The right pick depends on whether the app needs live data or SQL.
Higher included amounts, daily backups, log streaming, exception reporting, custom domains, email support and HIPAA and SOC 2 reports.
