NetlifyFree tier and limits

Web hosting on a credit system. Free gets 300 credits a month, and sites pause when they run out.

Sniffed 2d agoNo card needed#static-hosting#jamstack#ci-cd#serverless-functions#forms

Each production deploy costs 15 credits, so budget your deploys. Netlify hosts static sites and web apps with built-in deploys, functions and forms. Its pricing page now uses credits: Free is $0 forever with a 300 credit limit a month, Personal is $9 a month with 1,000 credits, and Pro is $20 a month with unlimited members and credit tiers from 3,000 to 20,000. Costs are metered, with production deploys at 15 credits each, bandwidth at 20 credits per GB, compute at 10 credits per GB-hour and web requests at 2 credits per 10,000. Netlify's billing FAQ says that once the monthly credits are used up, all web projects on the team are paused and visitors see a Site not available page until the next billing cycle or an upgrade. That pause is the main complaint on Reddit and Trustpilot, which shows a low rating dominated by credit confusion, suspensions and support delays.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +Free is $0 forever, with a Trustpilot reviewer noting free static sites, drag-a-folder deploys and a custom domain on the free plan.
  • +Credit costs are published per action, so you can estimate a month: 15 credits per production deploy, 20 per GB of bandwidth, 2 per 10,000 web requests.
  • +Usage emails arrive at 50%, 75% and 100% of your monthly credits, according to Netlify's billing FAQ.
  • +Trustpilot has a review titled 'Exceptional support and reliable service, even on the free tier', and another reviewer called the free tier very generous.
  • +Pro is $20 a month with unlimited members, which suits an agency that adds collaborators.
  • +A Trustpilot reviewer running a small agency said one account hosts 10 static websites and two live apps, and that the credit system becomes a predictable expense once you pick the right plan.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’When credits hit zero the live site goes down as well as deploys. The billing FAQ says all web projects are paused and visitors see a Site not available page.
  • βˆ’A Trustpilot reviewer said a static site with one visitor was paused after using up its 300 credits in a day, and another said every update after the first build needed a credit top-up. Both are single reviews.
  • βˆ’The credit system confuses people. The Trustpilot summary says reviewers frequently complained about unexpected shutdowns, sudden suspensions and a confusing credit system.
  • βˆ’Trustpilot shows 1.9 stars from 79 reviews in one search excerpt, with complaints about suspensions without warning and slow support. Treat it as a skewed sample, since unhappy users review more.
  • βˆ’A r/webdev poster in an older thread (before the credit plans) said Netlify sent a $104K bill for a static site; they said usage had been under 10 GB a month. The credit plan now pauses instead of billing.
  • βˆ’An agency thread on r/webdevelopment said Netlify's September 2025 pricing changes made it unviable for their client projects and that they moved to Cloudflare Pages.

The catch

The free plan is a credit meter, and the failure mode is a paused site. Netlify's billing FAQ says that when the monthly credits are used up, all web projects on the team are paused, they stop receiving requests and form submissions, and you cannot trigger production deploys. On Free, you wait for the next billing cycle or upgrade. The 300 credits can go quickly, because every production deploy costs 15 credits, bandwidth costs 20 credits per GB and compute is metered. One Trustpilot reviewer said their static site with one visitor paused after a day, while another still had 299 credits left after deploying a site, so it depends on how often you deploy and what you run. Netlify's credit docs describe auto recharge and credit packs for teams that run out. I could not confirm whether signup needs a card or what commercial terms apply to Free.
