ngrokFree tier and limits

Tunnels for local servers. The free plan has 3 endpoints, 1 GB and 20k requests.

Sniffed 22d agoNo card needed#tunneling#localhost#webhooks#reverse-proxy#ingress#api-gateway

Shows your localhost to a client or a webhook without deploying anything. ngrok exposes local services to the internet through tunnels, and now describes itself as a secure ingress platform with a reverse proxy, firewall, API gateway and Kubernetes ingress. The pricing page lists a Free plan with up to 3 online endpoints, 1 GB of data transfer, 20,000 HTTP/S requests, an assigned dev domain and an interstitial page on HTTP/S endpoints. Hobbyist is $10 a month ($96 billed yearly) with 5 GB, 100,000 requests and no interstitial. Pay-as-you-go is $20 a month plus usage, with unlimited endpoints, your own domain, wildcard endpoints and mutual TLS. A r/node poster said ngrok works great but wanted another option because a static URL needed the paid tier, and a competing vendor's comparison says Hobbyist endpoints stop when the monthly usage credit runs out. I found no G2 or Capterra text. It fits quick webhook tests and short demos, and costs more once you need your own domain.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +The Free plan gives you up to 3 online endpoints and an assigned dev domain for public endpoints.
  • +Hobbyist at $10 a month, or $96 for a year, removes the interstitial page and raises the plan to 5 GB and 100,000 requests.
  • +Pay-as-you-go adds unlimited endpoints, your own domain, wildcard endpoints, mutual TLS and unlimited team members, with 3 included.
  • +The pricing page positions ngrok beyond tunnels: reverse proxy, firewall, API gateway and Kubernetes ingress.
  • +A r/node poster said ngrok works great, and wanted an alternative only because a static URL needed the paid tier.
  • +SSO, RBAC and SCIM are available as add-ons on Pay-as-you-go for teams that need them.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’Free is capped at 1 GB of data transfer and 20,000 HTTP/S requests, and visitors see an interstitial page on HTTP/S endpoints.
  • βˆ’Free and Hobbyist both allow 1 team member.
  • βˆ’Your own domain is listed on Pay-as-you-go, which starts at $20 a month plus usage. Hobbyist gets ngrok-branded domains.
  • βˆ’Hobbyist includes 5 GB and 100,000 requests, and more only with credit. A competing vendor's comparison says endpoints stop when the $10 monthly credit runs out. I could not confirm that on ngrok's page.
  • βˆ’Older Reddit threads describe different free limits, such as 2 tunnels per agent, so advice from those posts is out of date.
  • βˆ’I found no G2, Capterra or Trustpilot text for ngrok, so the user opinions here come from Reddit.

The catch

The Free plan is capped at 1 GB of data transfer and 20,000 HTTP/S requests. The extract I read does not state the period. A competing vendor's write-up says it is per month. HTTP/S endpoints show visitors an interstitial page, so it works for your own testing more than for sharing a demo with a client. Hobbyist at $10 a month removes the interstitial page but only gives ngrok-branded domains. Bringing your own domain is listed on Pay-as-you-go, which is $20 a month plus usage. Limits have changed over time. Older Reddit posts describe 2 tunnels per agent and ask about an 8-hour session, and neither matches the current page. A competing vendor writes that Hobbyist endpoints stop until the next cycle when the $10 usage credit runs out. I could not confirm that on ngrok's own pricing page.
