TailscaleFree tier and limits

WireGuard private network for your devices. Free for up to 6 users with unlimited devices.

Sniffed 14d agoNo card needed#vpn#wireguard#mesh-network#zero-trust#remote-access#acl

Puts your laptop, server and phone on one private network. Tailscale builds a private network across your devices on the WireGuard protocol, so servers, laptops and phones can reach each other without public IPs. The Personal plan is free for up to 6 users with unlimited user devices, up to 3 ACL groups and up to 50 tagged resources. Standard is $8 a month with unlimited users and SCIM, and Premium is $18 with up to 300 ACL groups. New accounts get Premium free for 7 days. G2 lists 31 reviews and ranks ease of use first with 8 mentions, then device connectivity, easy installation and security. The top complaints are access problems on strict networks, with 3 mentions, and team plan pricing, with 2. One G2 reviewer calls it cumbersome for large production networks that need granular ACLs. A competitor's write-up says Standard seats are billed whether used or not since an April 2026 change. Reddit users call the free plan great value.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +G2 reviewers mention ease of use 8 times, the top positive theme across 31 reviews.
  • +G2 reviewers praise device connectivity, such as reaching a home network from anywhere, with 5 mentions.
  • +A G2 reviewer noted a device does not need a public IP for others to connect to it.
  • +A G2 reviewer uses it with pfSense, AWS servers and Apple TV and says it works great for security and ease of use.
  • +A r/Tailscale poster wrote that Tailscale just works, works free, and has a built-in file transfer feature.
  • +The Personal plan covers up to 6 users with unlimited user devices at no cost.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’G2 reviewers call team plan pricing too high, with 2 mentions, and one says costs rise as the number of users grows.
  • βˆ’G2 lists access issues, with 3 mentions: users struggling to authenticate and connect devices under strict network conditions.
  • βˆ’A G2 reviewer finds Tailscale cumbersome for large production networks that need DNS routing and granular ACLs.
  • βˆ’Personal allows only 3 ACL groups and 50 tagged resources to start.
  • βˆ’A G2 reviewer reported firewall problems that hinder device authentication in restricted networks such as China.
  • βˆ’A r/selfhosted commenter says the main downside is that you are now allowing those other devices onto your network.
  • βˆ’A competitor's write-up says that since April 2026 you pay for every purchased Standard seat, used or not. I could not confirm that on Tailscale's page.

The catch

The Personal plan is free for up to 6 users with unlimited user devices. The limits to watch are 3 ACL groups, 50 tagged resources to start and 1,000 minutes a month for ephemeral resources. Standard raises ACL groups to 10 and adds SCIM, and Premium goes to 300 ACL groups. A Reddit thread titled 'Tailscale personal plan for business use' shows people asking whether the free plan is allowed for work. I did not find a commercial-use statement on the pricing page, so check Tailscale's terms before you use Personal for a business. A competitor's write-up says Standard went to $8 per seat in April 2026 and that you pay for every purchased seat, used or not. I could not confirm that on Tailscale's own page. G2 reviewers say Tailscale works well at home scale but gets cumbersome for large production networks with granular ACLs and DNS routing.
