πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +Every product is on every plan. The pricing FAQ says the website, podcast, community and digital products come with all plans and that limits, support and advanced features are what change.
  • +Email sends are unlimited on every plan, and the Free plan lists API access and integrations, which suits developers who want to automate publishing.
  • +beehiiv takes 0% of paid subscription and digital product revenue. You pay Stripe's standard 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction.
  • +G2 reviewers like the ease of use. G2 counts 16 mentions of a user-friendly design, and a G2 reviewer said they put together their first edition within a few minutes.
  • +Support gets praise. A G2 reviewer described the support team as very active and responsive on Slack, Twitter, email and ticketing.
  • +Analytics and growth tools stand out in reviews. A G2 reviewer called the analytics and recommendation features strong for finding where subscribers come from, and another liked ad matching.
  • +G2 shows 4.5 from 40 reviews with 75% five-star. Trustpilot showed about 3.9 to 4.0 from roughly 410 reviews in search excerpts.
  • +Opinions from people who used several platforms favor it for newsletter-first work. An r/Emailmarketing poster who tried beehiiv, Substack and Kit called beehiiv best for serious newsletter businesses and said the learning curve is real.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’Free is capped at 2,500 subscribers and has no paid subscriptions. An r/Newsletters commenter wrote that the 0% fee only exists on paid plans, which start at $49 a month at 1,000 subscribers.
  • βˆ’Cost is the top complaint. G2 counts 9 mentions of the price being too high, and a G2 reviewer wrote that sponsor costs can exceed payouts for a small creator.
  • βˆ’Automations are paid. The pricing page lists them from Lite, and a G2 reviewer asked for automation without having to pay more or even in the free plans. That review was incentivized.
  • βˆ’Branding removal is Pro only at $95 a month. Free and Lite keep the beehiiv branding.
  • βˆ’A Trustpilot reviewer wrote that only the Pro plan, at $95 a month billed annually, restores what the free plan gave them in September. The excerpt does not say which features changed.
  • βˆ’Customization draws complaints. An r/Blogging commenter said beehiiv can be limiting on customization unless you go premium, and two G2 reviewers said the editor offers little design flexibility.
  • βˆ’The learning curve is real. G2 counts 2 mentions of a steep start, particularly for website setup, and a G2 reviewer had trouble importing emails into segments and rebuilding Flodesk templates.
  • βˆ’A G2 reviewer reported performance trouble, saying the app sometimes stops showing content.

The catch

Free is free forever with no credit card, but it stops at 2,500 subscribers and leaves out paid subscriptions, ad monetization and automations. Those start on Lite at $49 a month on yearly billing at 1,000 subscribers. Pro is $95 a month on yearly billing and is the first plan that removes beehiiv branding. The prices on the page are for 1,000 subscribers and rise with list size within each plan's cap: Lite serves up to 100,000 subscribers, Pro up to 250,000, and Enterprise is custom. Yearly billing saves up to 20% against monthly. The FAQ says Lite and Pro include a free trial and that no credit card is needed to start, but the page text I read does not give the trial length. beehiiv says it takes 0% of paid subscription and digital product revenue. Stripe's 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction still applies. I did not find commercial-use terms for the free plan, so that field is unknown.
