LoopsFree tier and limits

Email for SaaS: marketing and transactional sends in one tool. Free to start with no card, $49 a month to grow.

Product emails, marketing emails and transactional emails from one tool. Loops (loops.so, a Y Combinator W22 company) is an email platform aimed at SaaS teams that want marketing, product and transactional email in one place. Pricing follows subscribed contacts, not sends, and team seats are free. Free stores unlimited contacts and covers 4,000 marketing and transactional sends per rolling 30 days to your first 1,000 contacts, with a Powered by Loops footer and a limit of 10 emails per second. Growth starts at $49 a month for up to 5,000 contacts, with unlimited marketing and transactional sends, up to 1,000 emails per second and no Loops branding. The FAQ says Free needs no credit card. Product Hunt shows 4.9 from 135 reviews, mostly from founders. I found no G2 or Capterra ratings for this Loops, so the evidence below comes from Product Hunt, a 2023 Hacker News launch thread and Reddit excerpts.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +Marketing and transactional email share one tool. A Product Hunt reviewer who uses Loops for a newsletter and for onboarding and trial emails called it built for SaaS specifically.
  • +Simplicity is the most repeated praise. Product Hunt tags simplicity 30 times and fast setup 13 times, and the summary of reviewers describes a clean interface and strong docs.
  • +Pricing follows subscribed contacts, not sends. The FAQ says unsubscribed contacts do not count and paid plans have unlimited sends, which an r/vibecoding commenter called a better fit for drip sequences and onboarding emails.
  • +Seats are free. The FAQ says Loops does not charge for team seats.
  • +The free tier is generous for a startup according to a Product Hunt reviewer who sends transactional email through Loops and connects it with n8n.
  • +Integration was easy in early reports. A Hacker News commenter in 2023 said starting on the API for light-volume transactional email was so smooth it was anticlimactic.
  • +Support gets mentions. A Product Hunt reviewer praised a reply on a Sunday, and another said the quality of support is high.
  • +Product Hunt shows 4.9 from 135 reviews, though 112 are from founders and many are several years old.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’Contact-based pricing drew pushback at launch. In September 2023 several Hacker News commenters said they would rather pay per send or per active user, and one with 500k contacts who rarely sends said it would not work for them.
  • βˆ’Free is tight. It covers 4,000 sends per rolling 30 days to your first 1,000 contacts, includes a Loops footer, and limits sending to 10 emails per second.
  • βˆ’The page text I read gives only the $49 starting price for Growth. The slider runs from 5,000 to 1.5 million contacts without prices in the text, so check the live page before budgeting.
  • βˆ’Some reviewers found it too basic. A Product Hunt reviewer wrote at launch that the editor was a bit buggy, there was no undo and there were no API client packages. The founder replied that an undo state existed and packages were planned, and that review is about three years old.
  • βˆ’Navigation can confuse. A recent Product Hunt reviewer said moving between a campaign, the mailing list and a segment is a little confusing.
  • βˆ’It is aimed at SaaS. Product Hunt's summary notes features may be limited for non-SaaS businesses and tags a SaaS focus as a con twice.
  • βˆ’Delivery details were thin in 2023. A member of the Loops team said at launch that sending ran on AWS SES with no dedicated IPs offered then. That may have changed since.
  • βˆ’I found no G2 or Capterra ratings for loops.so. The listing named Loops on G2 is a different product, a survey tool.

The catch

Free stores unlimited contacts but sends only to your first 1,000 subscribed contacts, up to 4,000 emails (marketing and transactional together) per rolling 30 days. Emails carry a Powered by Loops footer and go out at up to 10 per second. The FAQ says no credit card is needed. Paid pricing is by subscribed contacts. Growth is $49 a month for up to 5,000 contacts, and the pricing page has a slider from 5,000 up to 1.5 million contacts. Above 1.5 million is Enterprise by quote. Paid plans have unlimited marketing and transactional sends, no Loops branding and up to 1,000 emails per second. The page says unsubscribed contacts never count toward your price and that there is no charge for team seats. I did not find a trial period (the plan to start is Free), commercial-use terms for Free, or dedicated IP options on the pages I read.
