Landing pages, forms and product sales sit on the free plan. Kit, formerly ConvertKit, is an email platform for creators who sell newsletters, courses and digital products. The Free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited landing pages, forms and broadcasts, tagging, segmentation and the ability to sell digital products and subscriptions. Visual automations, email sequences, branding removal and the Kit MCP start on the Creator plan at $33 a month billed yearly for 1,000 subscribers. Pro is $66 a month, listed at $50 for the first year under a limited offer. Both paid plans have a 14-day trial with no credit card. Kit charges 3.5% plus 30 cents on product sales, which the page says includes card processing, and states there are no sending limits. G2 shows 4.4 from 236 reviews and Capterra 4.6 from 244. Reviewers like the simple interface and automations, and they say the price climbs quickly past the free tier.

πŸ‘ Good boy

  • +The free plan is large. It allows up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited landing pages, forms and broadcasts, and a Capterra reviewer called the free tier generous on its face because it includes landing pages, forms, broadcasts and tagging.
  • +Sending is uncapped. The pricing FAQ states there are no sending limits on any plan.
  • +Ease of use leads the G2 summary. Reviewers describe a clean interface, an easy setup and simple form and automation building, and a G2 reviewer said it is one of the most creator-friendly email tools they have used.
  • +Selling is built in. Digital products and subscriptions are on the Free plan with a 3.5% plus 30 cents fee that includes card processing, and the comparison table also lists paid newsletters and tip jars.
  • +Deliverability has a reputation. An r/Emailmarketing commenter said ConvertKit has been around longer and has a solid foundation for deliverability. That thread compared it with beehiiv and is older.
  • +Automations are on the paid tiers. Creator lists unlimited visual automations and sequences, and an r/Emailmarketing commenter described Kit as more established for creator businesses with solid automation and segmentation.
  • +Support is praised in G2 reviews, and paid plans list 24/7 email and chat support.
  • +A Kit MCP is listed on Creator for connecting Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini to your list.
  • +Switching in is free. Paid plans include a migration service where Kit rebuilds forms, templates and automations.

πŸ‘Ž Watch out

  • βˆ’Cost climbs fast past the free tier. A Capterra reviewer wrote that subscriber 10,001 would cost $116 a month or $1,390 a year at the time of the review, and G2 counts 3 mentions of pricing being high for smaller creators.
  • βˆ’Automations are not on Free. The Creator plan adds visual automations, sequences, RSS campaigns, SMS, polls, branding removal and A/B subject lines, so a free list cannot send a welcome sequence.
  • βˆ’Advanced features sit on the top plan. A G2 reviewer said deeper automation and better reporting are locked behind the highest tier, and the Pro list names engagement analytics, deliverability reporting and collaborative editing.
  • βˆ’Lead magnet options on the starter plan are thin according to two G2 reviewers, one of whom said the introductory version feels limited to creating a newsletter.
  • βˆ’Customization is limited. A G2 reviewer said they hit walls on design options and integrations, and a Capterra reviewer titled their review that simplicity is both great and part of its weakness.
  • βˆ’An r/Emailmarketing poster comparing three tools said convertkit is best for course creators and that its newsletter features are basic. That is one person's view in a search excerpt.
  • βˆ’Paid Recommendations take a 23.5% fee on earnings, and the newsletter referral system and Facebook custom audiences are Pro only.
  • βˆ’Trustpilot opinion is lower than G2. The kit.com Trustpilot page showed 4.0 from 161 reviews in a search excerpt, against 4.4 on G2 and 4.6 on Capterra.

The catch

The Free plan is real and large, but it is a list-building plan. It has no visual automations, no sequences, no RSS campaigns and no way to remove Kit branding. Those start on Creator at $33 a month billed yearly for 1,000 subscribers, or $390 a year, which the page says saves $78 against monthly billing. Price follows subscriber count. When you pass your plan's limit, Kit upgrades you to the next subscriber tier automatically. If you clean your list, the FAQ says a person on the team has to downgrade the plan by hand, so email help@kit.com. A Capterra reviewer put the 10,001st subscriber at $116 a month or $1,390 a year at the time of that review. Pro is listed at $66 a month for 1,000 subscribers, with a limited-time first-year price of $50 a month ($593 billed the first year) that renews at the standard rate. The 14-day trials need no credit card, and you add one when the trial ends to keep a paid plan. I did not find commercial-use terms for Free, and the API row in the comparison table was unclear for the Free plan, so I left those as unknown.
